Santa Cruz Skateboards was founded in 1973, almost by accident. At the time, Richard Novak and his partners were making surfboard fins from fibreglass. A friend of a friend asked if they could make skateboards, so they said why not. Using the excess fibreglass, loose ball bearings, urethane roller skate wheels and roller skate trucks, they built 500 skateboards which sold out immediately. More than 4 decades later, Santa Cruz is still rolling strong..
